Royal Tunbridge Wells and The Ivy
On Wednesday 8th November, The Ivy in Royal Tunbridge Wells officially opened its doors and became Kent’s first Ivy restaurant. As complete foodies at heart (and with several hailing from Tunbridge Wells) it would be rude if at least one Hubbie didn’t check out the hottest new venue.
Situated on the High Street of Royal Tunbridge Wells, a stones throw from the iconic Pantiles colonnade, The Ivy Royal Tunbridge Wells is the perfect spot for sophisticated all-day dining. Menus comprise of traditional British classics and range from breakfast, elevenses and weekend brunch to lunch and dinner, including afternoon tea, light snacks, and cocktails along the way.
One of the smaller sites within the Ivy Collection, The Ivy Royal Tunbridge Wells has 105 covers in the restaurant and a collection of bar seating, as well as a Parisian-style alfresco dining area. The restaurant features classic red and gold seating areas, with artwork from local artists, inspired by Tunbridge Wells and Kent covering the walls.
Having had a sought-after table booked for over a month ahead for a weekend when my mother was visiting, the Sunday finally came for us to enjoy a wonderful weekend brunch. Greeted by extremely attentive staff on the door, our coats were taken and we were shown to our table – a spot just opposite the bar, and great for people watching!
After a flurry of menus we chose the Eggs Royale and chips, consisting of smoked salmon and two poached hen’s eggs sitting on toasted English muffins, drizzled in hollandaise sauce, topped with a sprinkling of watercress and thick cut chips on the side, paired with a glass of sparkling Ivy Collection Champagne.
The food and drink was delicious and the atmosphere extremely warm and welcoming. We will definitely be returning, most probably to trial the cocktail menu next time…
