How to trade with the on trade

Last week, we hosted the latest in a series of industry breakfast briefings at The Alchemist, St Martin’s Lane. The focus…. ‘How to trade with the on trade’. Attended by brands looking to see how they can add value in the channel, the varied content looked at trends, challenges and issues impacting the on trade, as well as first-hand advice and examples from operators about the way they work with branded suppliers.

We were joined by a fantastic line up of speakers, from across the pub and casual dining sectors. First, setting the scene, was Katy Moses from research specialists, KAM Media, providing an outlook of the on trade market for 2019, from a survey of 1,000 pub goers and publicans.

We then had an insight into The Alchemist from its head of restaurants, Hannah Plumb, who brought her years of experience with the business alive, to talk about marrying food and drink together, to create a destination. With a career that includes contract catering, pubs and now casual dining, Glenn Evans, head of food development at Las Iguanas, revealed some recent success stories of how he has worked with brands and suppliers.

David Wigham, Commercial Director at Admiral Taverns, who has experienced both the supplier and operator side the industry, told guests how a brand can stand out in the procurement process. And finally, our founder, Rebecca Riches shared insight into market segmentation and some marketing success stories within the channel, from our clients.

A thoroughly enjoyable and interesting morning and we’d like to thank all our speakers and attendees for their time.
